Sharemind 2.0 will introduce the Sharemind SDK

We have been working on a number of new tools and technologies to make Sharemind more friendly for developers and more efficient for the users. Both development tracks will join for the release of Sharemind 2.0 that will be released in the form of a Software Development Kit (SDK).

This SDK will contain:

  • a developer version of the Sharemind privacy-preserving virtual machine
  • a compiler for the SecreC programming language
  • an IDE for developing SecreC code
  • tools for profiling and debugging secure algorithms.

If you wish to be informed of the release of the SDK, please contact us with your request.

Paper about private histogram and frequent itemset analysis with Sharemind

We have been using SecreC - a new programming language introduced in Sharemind 1.9 - for creating actual data mining applications. Our first attempts have been documented in a research report.

Bogdanov, D., Jagomägis, R., Laur, S. Privacy-preserving Histogram Computation and Frequent Itemset Mining with Sharemind. Cybernetica research report T-4-8. 2009.

Get the paper (T-4-8) from here.

The report describes how we adapted the algorithms for Sharemind. We also give a thorough analysis of the benchmark results. If you want to reproduce the results or see the algorithms in action, get Sharemind 1.91.

Sharemind 1.91 released & Talk at IST 2009

We have released Sharemind 1.91, an incremental release over Sharemind 1.9.

The main addition is an experimental application for computing histograms based on the SecreC language. SecreC also got a few updates like support for private boolean operations. Also, the memory requirements of multiplication, share conversion and bitwise addition have been greatly reduced. In some cases, performance improvements of 10%-15% were witnessed.

Download it here and read the release notes. The example data from the last release works fine.

Also - there will be a talk about Sharemind at the Symposium on Innovative Software Technology. It will concentrate on the latest practical results for histogram and frequent itemset analysis. The performance analysis will be published soon in the Cybernetica Research Report series. Stay tuned.

Sharemind 1.9 released

It's finally happened. We've taken all the features from our last year of work and packaged them into this shining new version of Sharemind.

So what's new:

  • a completely redesigned Miner application that allows multiple users
  • a completely redesigned protocol suite that is significantly faster
  • seriously upgraded Sharemind assembly
  • a compiler for a high-level programming language called SecreC - you can now write algorithms with built-in separation of your public and private data
  • examples and documentation on how to test all these features

You can get it in the download area.
Make sure you also get the example data.

You can also read the full release notes.

Sharemind at the Research Connection in Prague

haremind will be represented in the Research Connection exhibition in Prague, May 7th-8th 2009. You can meet us in the SmartEstonia stand (stand 34).

We are looking for collaboration possibilities so if you need to run some privacy-preserving surveys or data mining tasks, let us know!

Sharemind at the MPC workshop in Aarhus

This week we were visiting professor Ivan Damgårds secure multi-party computation group in Aarhus. There were presentations from the members of his group and Sharemind developers. We also had a talk with the developers of the VIFF framework http://viff.dk.

We talked about how Sharemind and VIFF have different design goals and therefore different designs. An interesting idea was suggested - to implement an interpreter of Sharemind assembly for the VIFF system. This would allow them to use the new high-level language compiler we have been developing. We also got ideas on improving the protocols in Sharemind for greater performance.

It was a fruitful visit. Thanks to Ivan and everybody else for inviting us!

Sharemind trailers

We are currently busy stabilizing the next major release of Sharemind. Until that, take a look at the wonderful animations by Tolm Stuudio.
We will post Flash versions soon, so look at the Quicktime versions until then.

See the English version.

Sharemind 1.81 released

An issue was fixed that prevented some people from compiling the code. The new version is available in the download area.

Sharemind presented in EU ICT event 2008

The Sharemind project is presented in the Cybernetica booth at the European Union ICT event. We are looking for projects and research contacts. See us at booth C-18 in the SME village!
